Staines, England

As I was working in Staines for some months during the autumn og 2000, I've put together some information about the place.

Staines doesn't seem to be a very large place, but then again, I've not even tried to explore it. It's located south west of London, about 5 miles from Heathrow. There's a railway station, a bus station, all the English shops, like Woolworths, Sainsbury's, Marks & Spencer, and a lot of others.

In the summer, the banks of the Thames is a rather idyllic place, with white swans, long, green boats, rowing boats, green trees and a calm athmosphere.

Accomodation
There are three decent hotels that I know of:
The Anne Boleyn Hotel: see this page
The Swan Hotel: see this page.
The Thames Lodge: I've never been inside, but it looks nice from the outside. It's expensive, though, prices are from £122.

Eating out
There are plenty of places to eat in Staines. The George/J.D.Wetherspoon serves food at nice prices, and there are lots of pizza and fast food places along the High Street. There are nice restaurants too, however I haven't tried many of them.
The Jade Garden, a chinese restaurant, is located on the ground floor of the Anne Boleyn hotel.
The Saffron is next to Jade Garden, it's an Indian restaurant with nice food at very affordable prices.
The Pizza Express has the athmosphere of McDonalds, but service is much better, of course. But there are no curtains or anything, and there are tiled floors, so it's rather noisy if there are many people there.

Getting there
06.01.2003: There has been changes in the transportation since 2000. You may take bus 441 from stop 1 at the Central Bus Station, it will take you to Staines in about 30 minutes for £2.00.
